Customized Therapeutic Massage

This type of massage is tailored to your own needs and is a combination of the techniques I provide which are listed below. Depending on what your body needs, I will focus only on areas that are a concern to you.

Massage Cupping

Massage cupping is used for many different conditions. It uses plastic cups in a variety of sizes with a hand vacuum pump. By creating suction and negative pressure, massage cupping is used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways. This technique is very versatile and can be modified to accomplish a range of techniques from lymphatic drainage to deep tissue and fascial release depending on the depth of suction. -Anita Shannon

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork for the whole body. Range of motion can be added in for certain joints of the body. It combines oils or lotion with five different strokes (effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, and tapotement) to increase blood and lymph flow throughout the body. The benefits of this massage are wide-ranging and include: relieve stress, decrease aches and pains, enhance the body's immune system, improve sleep patterns, and increase flexibility.

Therapeutic Deep Tissue/ Sports Massage

Deep Tissue/ Sports Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is recommended for releasing chronic/ subacute stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries and newer injuries or conditions. Incorporated into this type of bodywork is trigger point, contract and relax movements, stretching and strain/counterstrain. All these techniques help to further the release of tight muslces and the adhesions within them. Communication is key in this type of bodywork between client and massage therapist to allow for the best treatment of care and get the best results. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment for about 24-48 hours, and drink plenty of water to help with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session. Heavy or intense working out is not recommeneded after this type of session.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy aims to gently and rhythmically move the lymph through the body, especially swollen areas of the body, relieving pressure and enhancing the functioning of the immune system. As both a preventative and remedial technique, LD can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, reduction of swelling and discomfort from pregnancy, and strengthened resistance to illness. The technique is followed by a ten minute rest period.

Myofascial Release Massage

Fascial tissue is a white membrane that encases every muscle, tendon and organ in your body. It serves as a lubricant but with physical and emotional trauma, habitual patterns, disease and the desiccation of tissue that can accompany the aging process, fascia can become hard, rigid, short, adhesive and inelastic. With the technique, the strokes will help lengthen, stretch, soften, and more the fascia more supple allowing for more flexibility and better alignment.

I have known Julie since college and I could not be more proud of all she has accomplished since then. I went to see Julie last week for my first massage in a long time. She was very professional and made sure to address all of my problem areas before the massage took place. I instantly felt at ease in Julie's care and I became more relaxed than I have ever been once the massage started. I thoroughly enjoyed my massage and I can't wait to go back for another one sometime soon. Julie even wrote me a nice thank you note for coming and I thought that was a very nice touch. If you are looking for a relaxing massage where you will want to keep coming back for more, look no further than Julie Morrissey.

"She had discovered knots and areas to be worked on that other massage therapists had only superficially touched on or hadn't even discovered at all.  At this point, I am happy to say that I don't think I will be needing a second surgery due to Julie's help and expertise."

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet. Reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body using very precise, pinpoint pressure with tip of thumb or index finger. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression. This treatment includes a 5-10 minute foot bath with epsom salts.
